Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS)

5.0 Industry

ICCS, Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, is a non-profit Academic Research Body established in 1989 by the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs to carry applied Research and Development activity in the areas of telecommunications, computer systems and their application in a variety of research themes. ICCS is linked to the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) and is the research arm of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). ICCS consists of more than 50 labs, research groups and teams, dealing with all aspects of Electrical and Computer Engineering and employs approximately 800 researchers and scientists including Faculty Members, permanent or long-term Researchers.

Role: Horizontal partner for developing new sorting solutions.

In PLASTICE, ICCS is represented by the I-SENSE Research Group, very active in numerous scientific and research areas. ICCS role in the project is to create a Cyber-Physical-Sorting System (CPSS) based on cutting-edge research and technological advancements. Specifically, a robotic-based plastic sorting mechanism based on intelligent hyper-spectral & industrial vision-based sensors, deep learning models and robotics, to improve the quality of required feedstocks in the COGERSA plant. To guarantee the quality of the CPSS, an initial lab-scale CPSS will be developed in ICCS facilities before being installed in the COGERSA plant as a previous step of the HTL process for its validation.
