Testing a symbiotic operation of a gasifier with a chemical reactor
LOCATIONS:
Umbria (Italy)
WASTE VALORISED:
Solid recovered fuel (SRF) included currently non-recyclable plastics
TECHNOLOGIES ADDRESSED:
The Italian circular value chain selected as demo-site places its core developments in Rome. The concept relies on the combination of a gasification process based on a rotatory kiln reactor and a ZEB process to produce dimethyl ether, which will be then processed to produce olefins. PLASTICE will demonstrate a symbiotic operation of a gasifier with a chemical reactor for the syngas post-treatment. In this way, it is possible to obtain valuable products (i.e. ethylene and DME) on a single and autothermic process.
Expected outcomes
-
1
To valorise plastic wastes used in low value applications (waste-to-energy) to produce high value chemicals (DME and olefins).
-
2
To combine the gasification with direct syngas chemical treatment to obtain the desired products, reducing the steps of the processes, increasing energy efficiency, and reducing costs.
-
3
To create social awareness, best practices and standards around the new process.
